Project Profile

CIVS is providing you with an amazing opportunity to participate in Agriculture, Environment, Culture and Language Camp that will take place at Ahero Resource Center which is located in Ahero, Kisumu County. The Center serves as a One-Stop-Shop offering a variety of services to the local community. The center is equipped with a training facility, which provides capacity building opportunities in Agriculture, Entrepreneurship and providing a venue for community groups meeting. The in-class training is complemented by practical learning on the adjacent Farmer Field School i.e. a model Farm which encompasses  Greenhouses, open farm, a domestic animal section with Poultry, rabbits and pigs, etc;  that provide practical examples of modern farming practices. The Ahero Resource Center is also equipped with comprehensive rainwater harvesting infrastructure to fully utilize the short and heavy rains in the region. The center runs an Early Childhood Education Program for 75 children who are either orphans, vulnerable affected by HIV/AIDS. The children receive free education, meals, and stationery. There is a Safehouse in the center that is expected to provide temporary accommodation to the people who are facing perceived danger. Youth ICT training in information technology and work preparedness also takes place.

From time to time depending on the availability of funds, 150 school going Orphans and Vulnerable Children get a free lunch at the center to improve their concentration and school performance. Additionally, a borehole provides a reliable and affordable source of safe water for the community. The construction of two water kiosks in the wider area connected with the borehole will improve accessibility to clean and safe water in the community significantly.
