Project Profile
The organization is currently running a community junior school called St. Benedetta School that has a vision to make the best out of children, to develop their talents in sports, music, and dancing. The project plans to start a vocational training center to provide skills and empowerment for young people. They have a youth group table banking that supports them in investments. The organization has seen progress in supporting needy children, supporting skills development and empowerment of youths and women.
The project is eager to welcome volunteers to work alongside the local team for the purposes of learning and sharing culture. They would like volunteers to support the community towards improving livelihoods and to give children the best in education, to interact and improve exposure of children to different cultures opening up to the wider world opportunities..
The area is situated on one edge of the Nyabondo plateau facing the sunset direction where visitors can sit and see as far apart as 10 KM. Volunteers will have opportunity to visit places in Kisumu and western Kenya.
QUALIFICATION & MOTIVATION
The project welcomes all volunteers who are motivated to join, however, volunteers with qualifications in Gender and Sex education, Monitoring and Evaluation, Finance, and Programing are more welcome.
General Information
CIVS solely depends on volunteer contributions to support its activities.
The fee has to be paid upfront on arrival in full.
300 Euros
It covers the following services:
- Airport transfers (Arrival and Departure)
- 3-day orientation seminar
- Introduction to the city
- Accommodation and food during orientation and during placement duration
- Coordination and office support
The following costs are NOT included:
- Visa costs and ticket flight
- Local travelling: from the office to the project
- Direct donations to the project
- Cost of sightseeing
- Cost of drinks like soda, beer, mineral water etc.
All volunteers taking part in this project will be picked up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.
There will be an orientation seminar for new volunteers lasting three days including Nairobi city introduction.
The volunteer will live in a house within the project site and food will be provided. Fieldwork takes place with a motorbike rider. The motorbike fare is about 2 euros per trip, and volunteers will pay their own fares during such trips.
Sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and mosquito net are necessary. You can also bring photos of your country, clothes, books, pens, toys etc
CIVS Kenya organizes tours and safaris to spectacular sites of interest in Kenya. Volunteers, who wish to participate, should let us know as soon as possible in order to enable us to make proper arrangements. The fee charged is all-inclusive of meals, transport, park entry fees, accommodation and tour guiding.
The cost of a 3-days safari to Masai Mara National Reserve is 400 Euros by Tour van and 480 Euros by a Landcruiser jeep.
It includes: –
Day 1: Nairobi – Maasai Mara: game viewing drive in the evening
Day 2: Maasai Mara game viewing drive in the morning and the evening
Day 3: Maasai Mara game viewing drive in the early morning
VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
There will be activities in the following areas; local schools and vocational training centers, in the villages, in individual homes, and at the project. The specific activities will be:
- Assist in planning and facilitating children’s extracurricular activities such as games and sports.
- Coordinate with the teachers to assist in teaching subjects such as English, Mathematics, environmental science, etc.
- Engaging in talent development activities like music, dancing, etc.
- Working on the farm at the project
- Helping in the kitchen area
