Makongeni Youth Group

Makongeni Youth Group

The Makongeni youth group is a non-political and religious registered as a self-help group under the social service department in 2010 found in Kwale County, Msambweni Sub-county Kinondo Ward. The group’s main goal is to empower and engage youth from the community to participate in community development and give them an opportunity to participate in improving their ability to express their interests, participate in capacity building and improve their overall well-being.

Project Profile

Since its inception the group has been involved in community projects such as the creation and maintenance of a computer learning centre and a free studying room, strengthening the confidence of the youth and their work, developing general skills, building character and promoting citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism as well as promoting healthy lifestyle of the youth and community members. The group has a poultry unit for rearing chicken specifically to solve income-related problems affecting families and the youth of the area in general. The group is also involved in environmental conversation activities in close coordination with other environment conservation groups: Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest, Baraka Conservation Group and Mikoko Pamoja Project. Furthermore, the group is involved in permaculture at Makongeni School where they provide training on the techniques of permaculture which are later applied to small farms and organic gardens.
