Vision center was established in the year 2007 to support the needy families and orphaned children in the community. The initiators of this project had the dream to provide education and resources so that the children, women, and families could find new ways to generate their own income.
Project Profile
The project is involved with the following activities:
- Supporting the Orphan children with basic needs, education and spiritual training
- Dairy Goat farming where milk from the goats is sold to generate income
- Brick Making for construction of houses
- Dairy Cow Project for commercial milk and training members on domestication
- Crop farming for maize and beans
- Water borehole
So far 60 orphaned children have been assisted with school uniforms and school fees and 100 youths have recently completed tailoring and dressmaking.
Location
The project is located in Khalaba location, Mumias Subcounty, Kakamega County.
Volunteering activities
- Working on the project’s farm
- Assisting in taking care of the dairy goats
- Giving nutrition and medical knowledge to the women
- Assisting in brick making
- Visiting orphans to give them counseling and support
- Cleaning of the center
- Promotion of project activities online
Accommodation and food
The volunteer will live in a volunteer house at the project. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.
