Community Program
CIVS Kenya is a community development organization that works with communities in the marginalized and poverty-stricken rural areas of Kenya. CIVS does this with the main objective of contributing towards the socio-economic empowerment of disadvantaged communities and fostering harmonious relations among people of different backgrounds with innovative and customized high-quality services.

Project Profile
We believe that people should retain the responsibility for their own development while CIVS supports guides and mentors their efforts with innovative and customized high-quality services. We are looking for volunteers to support our head office in Nairobi. Depending on your skills and area of interest, you can help us to improve our work.
General Information
CIVS solely depends on volunteer contributions to support its activities.
The fee has to be paid upfront on arrival in full.
300 Euros
It covers the following services :
- Aiport transfers (Arrival and Departure)
- 3-day orientation seminar
- Introduction to the city
- Accommodation and food during orientation and during placement duration
- Coordination and office support
The following costs are NOT included :
- Visa costs and ticket flight
- Local travelling : from the office to the project
- Direct donations to the project
- Cost of sightseeing
- Cost of drinks like soda, beer, mineral water ect
All volunteers taking part in this project will be picked up from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.
There will be an orientation seminar for new volunteers lasting three days including Nairobi city introduction.
The volunteer will live in a host family near the office where they will get breakfast and dinner. The office will provide tea and a snack during the day. Traveling to projects and fieldwork will require the use of a public bus and the volunteer is required to cover his/her own travel costs.
Sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and mosquito net are necessary. You can also bring photos of your country, clothes, books, pens, toys etc
During weekends, volunteers can visit lots of sites of interest in Nairobi and around :
- Giraffe orphanage
- Elephant orphanage
- Nairobi National Museum,
- Nairobi National Park
- Lake Naivasha
- Hell’s gate
- Rift valley viewpoint
CIVS Kenya organizes tours and safaris to spectacular sites of interest in Kenya. Volunteers, who wish to participate, should let us know as soon as possible in order to enable us to make proper arrangements. The fee charged is all-inclusive of meals, transport, park entry fees, accommodation and tour guiding.
VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
A detailed job description document will be sent to the volunteer depending on their area of specialization. Activities will include working both at the office and in field at selected community development projects. Generally, volunteer activities may include:
CIVS Office (Nairobi)
- Review, analyze, and maintain CIVS website and social media platforms by creating high-quality content to enhance online visibility and engagement.
- Improve CIVS publications (info sheets, brochures, and flyers, business cards) to ensure a strong visual and informational presence.
- Support in general office tasks including filing, data entry, document review, scanning, and photocopying.
- Review and propose updates for Medium-Term (MTV) and Short-Term Volunteer (STV) project content.
- Map existing CIVS partners and identify new strategic partnerships aligned with CIVS’s mission in volunteering and community development.
- Assist in drafting and editing program documents such as concept notes, proposals, and project reports.
Field Work (Kisumu)
- Enhance the Resource Center’s online presence by updating website content and creating engaging multimedia posts.
- Support marketing of programs via targeted posts on Facebook and Instagram.
- Contribute to Agriculture for Development by engaging in activities like land tilling, planting, weeding, watering, applying manure, and harvesting.
- Contribute to Education for Development by teaching basic subjects (e.g., English, drawing, creative arts) at the CIVS Learn and Play Center.
- Support fundraising efforts and promotion of the Resource Center and its activities.
- Assist in training youth and women on basic computer use and entrepreneurial skills.
- Participate in project visits, monitor and evaluate progress, and compile reports.
- Help train local staff on baking and marketing products.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute ideas, solutions, and suggestions for improvements.
- Perform any other duties assigned and are encouraged to bring in innovative ideas.
NOTE:
- Laptop Requirement: Please carry a personal laptop for ease of work and documentation.
- Adaptability: You should be flexible and willing to adjust to varying local environmental and cultural conditions.
