Project Profile
Jenga Village Volunteers Project is a non-profit, and non-governmental community-based organization, that was started to support and empower the community of Shikumu Village in Western Kenya. JEVIVO stands for Jenga Village Volunteers, with “Jenga” derived from the Swahili word meaning “to build.”
By focusing on the interconnectedness of these issues, they strive to create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential and improve their quality of life. The project also supports the most vulnerable members of Shikumu Village through various initiatives, such as:
Daycare for Vulnerable Children: They provide a safe, nurturing space for 15 children from disadvantaged families, offering them early childhood education, nutritious meals, and emotional support. The day care plays a crucial role in ensuring these children receive a strong foundation for a brighter future.
Environmental Conservation: They are actively involved in environmental sustainability efforts, including tree planting projects to combat deforestation, improve air quality, and promote biodiversity.
Community Health Support: They collaborate with Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) to promote health awareness, disease prevention, and access to essential healthcare services.
WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Program: Their efforts include providing safe, clean water to the community and constructing toilets and bathrooms to promote better hygiene and reduce waterborne diseases.
Food Security and Nutrition: They have established a greenhouse to enhance food security in the village. This initiative not only provides fresh produce for the community but also supports the daycare feeding program, ensuring that children receive nutritious meals 3 times a week.
Recreation Center for Youth: During school holidays, they provide a safe and engaging space where older children can participate in recreational activities, educational programs, and skill-building initiatives.
